Salisbury Cathedral is a masterpiece of early English Gothic architecture, completed in just 38 years. Its iconic 404-foot spire is the tallest in the UK, visible for miles across the Wiltshire plains. Inside, visitors can view one of the four surviving original 1215 Magna Carta manuscripts, displayed in the Chapter House. The cathedral also features the oldest working clock in Europe (c. 1386) and a peaceful cloister. The surrounding Close is the largest in Britain, with medieval houses and manicured lawns.

Don't miss

  • View the original Magna Carta in the Chapter House
  • Climb the tower for panoramic views (pre-booked tours)
  • See the 14th-century mechanical clock in the nave
