Old Sarum is the abandoned site of the original Salisbury, occupied since the Iron Age. Visitors explore the grassy earthworks and stone remnants of a Norman castle and the first Salisbury Cathedral, built in the 11th century. The site offers sweeping views over the Salisbury plains. An on-site museum displays artifacts from excavations, including pottery and tools. The circular ramparts provide a sense of the ancient fortifications, and information panels explain the site's strategic importance and eventual decline after the cathedral moved to its current location.
