The Mayflower Steps are a symbolic monument on Plymouth's Barbican waterfront, commemorating the departure of the Pilgrim Fathers in September 1620. Though the original steps were destroyed, a granite portico with a stone plaque now marks the approximate spot where the Mayflower set sail for the New World. Visitors can stand at the railing overlooking Sutton Harbour and imagine the historic voyage. Nearby, the Mayflower Museum tells the story of the Pilgrims and their journey. The site is also a departure point for harbor cruises and ferry trips.
