Pass of Killiecrankie

The Pass of Killiecrankie is a steep, tree-lined gorge carved by the River Garry, just north of Pitlochry. It's renowned for the 1689 Battle of Killiecrankie, a key Jacobite uprising clash. Today, a network of waymarked trails leads through ancient oak and birch woodlands, with viewpoints over the river's rapids and the narrow pass. The visitor center provides exhibits on the battle, local geology, and wildlife. Highlights include the Soldier's Leap, where a fleeing soldier is said to have jumped 18 feet across the river. The area is also a prime spot for red squirrel sightings.
