St Nicholas' Church, perched on a hill in West Looe, is a charming 13th-century church that has been a place of worship for nearly 800 years. Its most notable feature is the Norman font, a beautifully carved stone basin dating from the 12th century, which predates the church itself. The church's slender spire, visible from across the estuary, is a distinctive landmark and contrasts with the square tower of St Mary's in East Looe. Inside, the church retains a simple, historic atmosphere with wooden pews, a small organ, and memorials to local families. The churchyard offers lovely views over the town and water.

Don't miss

  • Examine the ancient Norman font, one of the oldest in Cornwall.
  • Look up at the wooden ceiling and medieval roof timbers.
  • Enjoy the view of Looe Estuary from the churchyard.
