St Columb's Cathedral, completed in 1633, is the oldest surviving building in Derry and a key historical site. Its interior is rich with artifacts from the Siege of Derry (1688–1689), such as the original city gates' keys and the mortar shell that killed the defender Captain Browning. The cathedral's stained glass windows and carved wooden pews add to its serene atmosphere. Visitors can explore the chapter house museum, which displays siege memorabilia and explains the cathedral's role in the city's history. The adjacent graveyard contains graves of notable figures.

Don't miss

  • See the original keys to the city gates and the siege mortar shell in the chapter house museum
  • Admire the 17th-century architecture, including the ornate east window and carved bishop's throne
