The Stade is Hastings' historic fishing quarter, home to Europe's largest fleet of beach-launched fishing boats. For centuries, fishermen have hauled their vessels onto the shingle beach, storing gear in distinctive tall, black-tarred net shops. Today, the area remains a working fishing port, with a daily fish market where you can buy the day's catch. Visitors can watch boats launch and land, explore the net shops, and sample fresh seafood at local cafes. The Stade also houses the Jerwood Gallery and the Hastings Fishermen's Museum, which tells the story of this ancient industry.
