St Mary's Church, Rydal, was constructed in 1824 largely at the expense of William Wordsworth and his family, who worshipped here. The church is a fine example of Gothic Revival architecture, with a simple interior that includes a memorial window to Wordsworth and a brass lectern given by his descendants. The churchyard holds the graves of Wordsworth's wife Mary and other family members, and the setting against the fells is serene. Visitors often come to see the Wordsworth connections and enjoy the quiet atmosphere.
