Rydal Water is a picturesque lake located just a mile from Grasmere, nestled between fells and woodland. It's smaller and quieter than its neighbor, Grasmere lake, offering a more intimate experience. A popular circular walk around the lake takes about 45 minutes and passes through woods, along the shore, and near the famous Rydal Cave. The lake is a great spot for a picnic, with several grassy areas by the water. Its shallow, clear waters reflect the surrounding trees and fells, making it a favorite for photographers. The walk connects to other trails, including those to Rydal Mount and Ambleside.
Don't miss
- Walk the easy circular path around the lake, passing through ancient woodland and along the shore.
- Explore Rydal Cave, a former quarry with a dramatic entrance and a small pool inside.
- Picnic on the grassy banks near the car park, with views of Nab Scar and the lake.
