Aonach Eagach is a dramatic, knife-edge ridge that stretches for about two miles above Glen Coe. It is renowned as one of the finest ridge scrambles in Scotland, requiring a head for heights and steady footing. The route involves exposed sections where a slip could be serious, so it is recommended only for those with scrambling experience and good fitness. Along the way, you'll traverse two Munro summits, Meall Dearg and Sgorr nam Fiannaidh, with breathtaking views down into the glen and across to the surrounding peaks. The descent via the 'Pinnacles' adds an extra challenge. Most parties take 5–7 hours to complete the ridge, and it's best attempted in dry, calm conditions.

Don't miss

  • Traverse the exposed 'Pinnacles' section, a series of rocky towers requiring careful scrambling.
  • Summit Meall Dearg and Sgorr nam Fiannaidh, both Munros with panoramic views.
  • Look down into the deep glens of Glen Coe and across to the Pap of Glencoe.
