Aberconwy Abbey, founded in 1186 by Cistercian monks, was one of the most important religious houses in medieval Wales. Its ruins lie on the banks of the River Conwy, just outside the town walls. The abbey was the burial site of several Welsh princes, including Llywelyn the Great, before being dissolved in the 16th century. Today, visitors can wander among the remaining stone walls, arches, and foundations, imagining the scale of the original church and cloisters. The site offers a peaceful, reflective atmosphere with views of the river and Conwy Castle.

  • See the remains of the abbey church, including the east end and parts of the nave walls.
