The Monsal Trail is a popular 8.5-mile route for walkers, cyclists, and horse riders, following the trackbed of the former Midland Railway line. The trail passes through four tunnels and over several impressive viaducts, including the iconic Monsal Head viaduct with its stunning views of the Wye Valley. The route is mostly traffic-free and relatively flat, making it accessible for families. Along the way, visitors can enjoy the limestone scenery, spot wildlife, and stop at former stations now serving as cafes and bike hire points.

Don't miss

  • Walk across the Monsal Head viaduct for panoramic valley views
