Margiana, also known as the Margush civilization, is an ancient historical region and archaeological site in the Mary oasis. Dating back to the Bronze Age (c. 2300–1500 BCE), it features the remains of fortified settlements, temples, and irrigation systems. Visitors can explore the ruins of Gonur Depe, the largest site, where a palace, ziggurat, and burial mounds have been excavated. The site offers a glimpse into a sophisticated pre-Silk Road culture that traded with the Indus Valley and Mesopotamia. It is a must-see for history enthusiasts interested in early Central Asian civilizations.
