Mor Hananyo Monastery, often called Deyrulzafaran (Saffron Monastery) due to the warm color of its stone, is a Syriac Orthodox monastery located about 5 km east of Mardin. Founded in the 5th century, it has been a major religious center for centuries and once served as the seat of the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch. The monastery complex includes a church, a library, and living quarters, all built around a central courtyard. Visitors can see the ancient mosaics, the throne room of the patriarch, and the crypts of several patriarchs. The site offers a peaceful atmosphere and a glimpse into the enduring traditions of Syriac Christianity.
