Marathesium was an ancient Greek settlement whose remains are scattered on a hilltop east of Kuşadası. The site features a small theater carved into the hillside, sections of defensive walls, and foundations of public buildings. Though largely unexcavated, the ruins offer a sense of the city's layout and its strategic view over the surrounding plains and sea. It is a quiet spot for those interested in off-the-beaten-path archaeology.
Don't miss
- Find the small ancient theater with its semi-circular seating area.
- Walk along the remaining sections of the city walls.
- Survey the Aegean coastline and olive groves from the hilltop.
