Al-Zaytuna Mosque is the oldest and largest mosque in Tunis, founded in 698 AD and expanded over centuries. It has served as a major center of Islamic learning, with a university that attracted scholars from across the Muslim world. The mosque's architecture blends various styles, including a striking minaret and a vast prayer hall with 184 columns. Visitors can explore the courtyard and the library, which holds thousands of ancient manuscripts. Non-Muslims are generally not permitted inside the prayer hall but can admire the exterior and courtyard.
