Hammam Sousse is a historic town just south of Sousse, known for its well-preserved Roman catacombs, one of the largest such complexes in North Africa. The catacombs, carved from soft rock, contain hundreds of tombs and early Christian frescoes. Above ground, the traditional medina features narrow alleys, local shops, and a small fortress. Visitors can explore the archaeological site and then wander the medina, experiencing a quieter, more authentic side of Tunisian history away from the beach crowds.
