Tha Phae Gate is the most famous of Chiang Mai's original city gates, built in the 13th century as part of the old city wall. Today, it serves as a vibrant hub where locals and tourists gather. The gate itself is a restored brick structure with a small square in front, often used for cultural performances. On Sundays, the gate becomes the starting point of the famous Walking Street market, which stretches down Ratchadamnoen Road with stalls selling crafts, food, and souvenirs. Visitors can also rent bicycles or join tours from this central location.
