The Old Dispensary, built in 1894 as a charitable hospital, is one of Stone Town's most architecturally striking buildings. Its three stories feature elaborate carved wooden balconies, stained glass, and a blend of Indian, Islamic, and European styles. After decades of neglect, it was meticulously restored and now serves as a cultural center, hosting art exhibitions, concerts, and community events. Visitors can admire the restored interiors, including the grand staircase and courtyard, and enjoy rotating displays of contemporary Zanzibari art.

Don't miss

  • Photograph the ornate wooden balconies and stained glass windows that make the facade a masterpiece of Zanzibari architecture.
  • Explore the interior courtyard and grand staircase, restored to their 19th-century splendor.
