The Battle of Jaxartes, fought in 329 BCE, was a key victory for Alexander the Great as he expanded his empire into Central Asia. The battle took place along the Syr Darya River (ancient Jaxartes), where Alexander's forces repelled Scythian archers using innovative tactics. Today, visitors can stand on the riverbanks and imagine the clash of cavalry and the flight of arrows. The site is less developed than other Alexander-related locations, offering a raw, historical atmosphere. Interpretive signs explain the battle's significance and Alexander's broader campaign in Sogdiana.
