Fort Zeelandia was built by the Dutch East India Company in 1624 as a stronghold on the coast of Anping. After the Dutch were expelled, the fort was partially dismantled, but its brick walls and bastions remain. Visitors can tour the on-site museum, which details the fort's role in trade and conflict, and climb the modern lighthouse tower for views of the Taiwan Strait. The site is distinctive for its well-preserved Dutch architecture and its significance as the starting point of Taiwan's colonial history.

Don't miss

  • Tour the museum to learn about Dutch colonial rule and the fort's strategic importance.
  • Climb the lighthouse for sweeping views of the coast and Anping Harbor.
  • Walk along the original ramparts and see the remaining brick bastions.
