The Beishi River Historical Trail follows the route of a former narrow-gauge railway that once transported coal and timber. Today, it's a flat, easy walking path that hugs the Beishi River, passing through several old railway tunnels and offering constant views of the river's emerald-green waters. The trail is lined with lush vegetation, and you can see remnants of the railway era, including rusted tracks and stone bridge abutments. It's a peaceful route that combines history with natural beauty, popular for leisurely strolls, birdwatching, and photography. The trail ends near the Shifen Waterfall entrance, making it easy to combine both attractions.
Don't miss
- Walk through the dark, cool railway tunnels that date back to the early 20th century
- Spot kingfishers and other birds along the riverbank
- Photograph the old railway trestles and stonework still visible along the path
