Zhaishan Tunnel is a colossal, horseshoe-shaped tunnel blasted into solid granite to shelter naval landing craft during the Cold War. Stretching over 350 meters, its high arched ceiling and deep water channel once allowed small boats to sail directly inside. Today, visitors walk along a wooden boardwalk that floats above the calm, dark water, marveling at the sheer scale of the excavation and the eerie play of light on the rock. The tunnel's open end frames a view of the sea, blending military engineering with natural beauty.
Don't miss
- Walk the boardwalk over the water channel and admire the tunnel's massive granite walls.
- Look for the remnants of boat docking equipment and mooring rings embedded in the rock.
- Stand at the tunnel's seaward entrance for a framed view of the coastline.
