The New Taipei City Gold Museum is an open-air museum set in the hills above Jiufen, dedicated to the region's gold mining heritage. Visitors can walk through preserved Japanese-era buildings, including the former mine manager's house, and view exhibits of mining tools and gold specimens. The highlight is the chance to try gold panning in a small stream, where you might find tiny flakes. The museum also offers a 220-kilogram gold bar that you can attempt to lift, making it a hands-on experience of Taiwan's gold rush history.
