The Fall of Ruad refers to the 1302 capture of the small island of Arwad (Ruad) by the Mamluks, ending nearly two centuries of Crusader rule in the region. The island, located about 3 kilometers off Tartus, was the last Crusader stronghold in the Levant. Today, visitors can take a boat to Arwad and see the remnants of the Crusader fortress, with its thick walls and towers. The site is historically significant as the final chapter of the Crusades, offering a tangible connection to medieval military history. The island itself is a quiet fishing community with narrow lanes and sea views.
