The Gornergrat Railway is a scenic cogwheel train that has been transporting visitors to the Gornergrat summit since 1898. Departing from Zermatt, the journey takes about 33 minutes to ascend 1,484 meters to the 3,089-meter-high Gornergrat. Along the way, passengers are treated to ever-expanding views of the Matterhorn, Monte Rosa, and the surrounding 29 peaks over 4,000 meters. At the top, a viewing platform and several restaurants await, along with a hotel and the Gornergrat Observatory. The railway operates year-round, making it a popular excursion in all seasons. In winter, it's a gateway to ski slopes, while summer offers hiking trails. The experience is distinctive for its combination of historic engineering and unparalleled alpine vistas.
