Gornergrat is a stunning viewpoint perched at 3,135 meters (10,285 feet) above sea level, reached by the highest open-air cogwheel railway in Europe. The journey from Zermatt takes about 33 minutes, winding through larch forests and alpine meadows before emerging above the treeline. At the top, you are rewarded with a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of more than 29 peaks over 4,000 meters, including the Matterhorn, Monte Rosa, and the Gorner Glacier, one of the largest glaciers in the Alps. The Gornergrat itself is a ridge with a hotel, restaurant, and observation deck. On clear days, the view stretches into Italy and France.
