Perched at 3,571 meters above sea level, the Sphinx Observatory is one of Europe's highest astronomical observatories. Located on the Jungfraujoch, the 'Top of Europe,' it features a panoramic terrace that provides breathtaking 360-degree views of the Aletsch Glacier, the longest glacier in the Alps, and the surrounding peaks of the Bernese Alps. Visitors reach the observatory via a high-speed elevator from the Jungfraujoch complex. The terrace is a prime spot for photography, especially at sunrise or sunset when the light paints the mountains in golden hues. Inside, there is an exhibition on astronomy and the history of the observatory, which has been used for research since the 1930s. The experience is unique for combining high-altitude science with accessible tourism, making it a must-see for anyone visiting the Jungfrau region.
