Lavaux is a breathtaking stretch of terraced vineyards that cascade down to the shores of Lake Geneva between Lausanne and Vevey. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2007, this region has been cultivated for over 800 years. Visitors can walk or cycle along the Lavaux Vineyard Terraces trail, which winds through picturesque villages like Lutry, Saint-Saphorin, and Rivaz. The terraces, built with dry-stone walls, capture sunlight and create a microclimate ideal for wine production. Wine cellars (caves) offer tastings of local Chasselas and other varietals. The views of the lake and Alps are spectacular, making Lavaux a must-visit for nature lovers and oenophiles alike.
