Hüttwilersee is a larger lake situated in a nature reserve just south of Stein am Rhein. It offers a mix of recreational opportunities: a designated swimming area with a sandy beach, a grassy sunbathing lawn, and a network of walking and cycling paths that loop around the lake. The water is clean and inviting, with a gradual entry that is safe for children. A wooden platform extends into the lake for easy access. The surrounding landscape is a mosaic of reeds, meadows, and small woodlands, home to many bird species. Bird hides are positioned along the trail for quiet observation. The lake is popular with locals for weekend outings, but it never feels overcrowded. There is a kiosk selling snacks and drinks during summer. The entire area is part of a protected wetland, so visitors are asked to stay on designated paths. The trail around the lake is about 4 km and takes roughly an hour to walk at a leisurely pace.
