Rising dramatically from the shores of Lake Thun, the Niesen is one of Switzerland's most iconic mountains, often called the 'Swiss Pyramid' for its near-perfect triangular shape. The summit offers breathtaking 360-degree views of the Bernese Alps, including the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau, as well as the entire Lake Thun region. The Niesenbahn funicular, built in 1910, takes visitors on a scenic ride up the mountain, passing through alpine meadows and forests. At the top, you'll find a restaurant, a viewing platform, and hiking trails that lead to even higher viewpoints. What makes Niesen distinctive is its accessibility, the funicular makes it easy for all ages to enjoy the alpine panorama. In winter, the area offers snowshoeing and sledding, while summer brings wildflowers and hiking. The mountain's unique shape also makes it a favorite subject for photographers, especially at sunrise and sunset.
