Neuhausen am Rheinfall is a small Swiss village that owes its fame to its spectacular neighbor: the Rhine Falls. Located just a few minutes' walk from the falls, Neuhausen serves as the primary gateway for visitors. The village itself is charming, with traditional Swiss architecture, a few hotels, and restaurants that offer views of the falls or the river. The main attraction is Schloss Laufen, a medieval castle perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the falls. The castle houses a museum, a youth hostel, and a restaurant, and its terraces and walkways provide some of the best viewpoints. From Neuhausen, you can also take boat trips that bring you right up to the falling water. The village has a train station (Neuhausen am Rheinfall) on the line from Schaffhausen, making it easy to reach. Despite the tourist crowds, Neuhausen retains a quiet, residential feel away from the immediate falls area. It's an ideal base for exploring the High Rhine region, with easy access to Schaffhausen's old town and the riverside trails.
