Julier Pass (Pass dal Güglia) sits at 2,284 meters, connecting the Upper Engadin region to the Bregaglia valley. The pass road is one of the oldest in the Alps, originally built by the Romans and still in use today. The drive up from St. Moritz is a spectacle in itself, with hairpin turns and sweeping views of the Engadin lakes. At the summit, you'll find the small Julier Lake (Lej da las Culuonnas), a turquoise gem perfect for a short stroll. The area is also a starting point for hikes, including the popular trail to Piz Julier or the longer trek to the Marmorera reservoir. In summer, the pass is busy with cyclists and motorcyclists, while winter transforms it into a serene snow-covered landscape. The historic significance of the pass is marked by a Roman column (Culuonna) near the lake, a reminder of its ancient use as a trade route.
