Perched at 3,571 meters on the Jungfraujoch, the Sphinx Observatory is both a working astronomical observatory and a public viewing platform. Visitors take a high-speed elevator from the Jungfraujoch station to reach the platform, which offers 360-degree views of the surrounding Alps, including the Aletsch Glacier, the largest glacier in the Alps. The observatory's location above the clouds provides unparalleled clarity for stargazing and glacier vistas. Inside, there are exhibits on astronomy and the construction of the Jungfrau Railway. The experience of standing on the platform, with the wind and the vast ice fields below, is a highlight of any trip to the Jungfraujoch.

Don't miss

  • Take the elevator to the viewing platform for panoramic views
  • See the Aletsch Glacier from above
  • Visit the astronomical exhibits inside the observatory
  • Photograph the sunrise or sunset from the platform
