Nestled in a deep valley surrounded by sheer cliffs, Lauterbrunnen is often called the 'Valley of 72 Waterfalls.' The village itself is a charming alpine settlement with traditional chalets, a historic church, and a lively main street. The most iconic waterfall is the Staubbach, which plunges nearly 300 meters from a hanging valley directly above the village. Another must-see is the Trümmelbach Falls, a series of glacial waterfalls inside a mountain, accessible by an internal lift. Lauterbrunnen serves as a gateway to the Jungfrau region, with trains and cable cars connecting to Wengen, Mürren, and the Jungfraujoch. Visitors can explore the valley floor on foot, following the well-marked waterfall trail that passes several cascades. The combination of dramatic natural scenery, fresh alpine air, and easy access to higher peaks makes Lauterbrunnen a perfect base for exploration or a peaceful retreat.
