The Bürgenstock Resort is a prestigious mountain retreat perched on the Bürgenstock plateau, 450 meters above Lake Lucerne. It comprises several hotels, a spa, and the famous Hammetschwand Elevator, the tallest outdoor elevator in Europe, rising 152 meters to a lookout with breathtaking views. The resort is a destination in itself: you can spend days hiking the Felsenweg cliff path, indulging in the 10,000-square-meter Alpine Spa (with indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, and treatment rooms), or dining at Michelin-starred restaurants. The resort's history as a luxury escape dates back to the 19th century, when it attracted royalty and celebrities. Today, it's accessible via a funicular from the lakeside village of Kehrsiten-Bürgenstock, which is reached by boat from Lucerne. The experience is one of serene exclusivity: the mountain air, the silence broken only by birdsong, and the ever-present lake view create a sense of otherworldly calm. Even if you're not a guest, you can visit the spa (for a fee) or ride the elevator for a small charge.
