Perched at an elevation of about 2,000 meters on the Schynige Platte mountain, this botanical garden is a living museum of alpine flora. Established in the early 20th century, it features over 600 species of plants native to the Swiss Alps, arranged in natural rock gardens and meadows. Visitors can wander along well-marked trails that wind through the garden, offering close-up views of delicate edelweiss, vibrant gentians, and rare saxifrages. The backdrop of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau peaks makes the experience unforgettable. The garden is reached via a historic cogwheel railway from Wilderswil, which itself offers panoramic views. It's a peaceful, educational destination for nature lovers and hikers, with interpretive signs explaining the plants' adaptations. The site also includes a restaurant with a terrace overlooking the mountains.
