Kleine Scheidegg is a high alpine pass at 2,061 meters, serving as a vital railway junction connecting Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen to the Jungfraujoch. The pass is not a summit but a saddle between the Eiger and Lauberhorn, providing an up-close view of the iconic Eiger North Face. The area features several historic hotels and restaurants where visitors can enjoy Swiss cuisine while gazing at the mountains. In winter, it is a hub for skiers and snowboarders accessing the Jungfrau Ski Region. In summer, it becomes a starting point for hikes to Männlichen, the Eiger Trail, or the Jungfraujoch. The cogwheel trains that stop here are an attraction in themselves, chugging through tunnels and over bridges. The atmosphere is lively yet relaxed, with the constant sound of trains and the occasional cowbell.

Don't miss

  • Watch the cogwheel trains arrive and depart from the station
  • Photograph the Eiger North Face from the viewing area
  • Hike the Eiger Trail along the base of the Eiger
  • Dine at one of the mountain restaurants with terrace views
  • Visit in winter for skiing and après-ski
