Monte Tamaro, rising to 1,962 meters above Ascona, is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and culture lovers alike. The mountain is accessible via a cable car from Rivera, which takes you to the Alpe Foppa station. From there, a network of hiking trails leads to the summit, offering sweeping views of the Alps, Lake Maggiore, and the Italian border. One of the main attractions is the Santa Maria degli Angeli church, designed by renowned architect Mario Botta. This modern stone chapel, with its distinctive circular shape and slit windows, sits at the top of the cable car and provides a serene spot for reflection. For thrill-seekers, the Monte Tamaro Mountain Coaster (a summer toboggan run) winds down the slopes, offering a fun ride with scenic vistas. In winter, the area transforms into a small ski resort with slopes for beginners and intermediates. The mountain also features a restaurant at the top station serving local Ticinese cuisine. Whether you're hiking, biking, or simply enjoying the panorama, Monte Tamaro delivers a memorable alpine experience.
