Uppsala Castle, a 16th-century royal fortress built by King Gustav Vasa, stands atop a hill overlooking the city. Today, it houses the Uppsala Art Museum, featuring modern and contemporary art, as well as the County Residence. Visitors can explore the castle's historic halls, including the grand State Hall, and enjoy stunning views of Uppsala from the castle grounds. The castle's turbulent history includes the 1702 fire that destroyed much of the original structure. It remains a symbol of royal power and a cultural hub.
