The Battle of Kassala took place on July 4, 1940, when Italian troops from Eritrea seized the Sudanese town from a small British garrison during World War II. The site, located on the outskirts of modern Kassala, features remnants of defensive positions and a memorial plaque. History enthusiasts can visit the battlefield to understand the strategic importance of Kassala as a gateway between Sudan and Eritrea, and learn about the brief Italian occupation that lasted until January 1941. The area is now peaceful, with interpretive signs (in Arabic and English) providing context.

Don't miss
