Nuri is one of Sudan's most impressive pyramid fields, serving as the royal burial ground for Kushite kings and queens from the 7th to 3rd centuries BCE. The site features more than 20 pyramids, with the largest and most famous belonging to King Taharqa, a powerful pharaoh mentioned in the Bible. Visitors can wander among the partially ruined structures, many still rising dramatically from the desert sand, and appreciate the unique Nubian pyramid architecture that blends Egyptian influences with local traditions.

Don't miss

  • The pyramid of King Taharqa, the largest at Nuri, with its distinctive steep sides
  • The pyramid of Queen Amanimalel, featuring a well-preserved chapel
  • The serene desert setting, offering panoramic views of the Nile Valley
