Koggala Lagoon, located just south of Unawatuna, is a large, scenic lagoon bordered by lush mangroves and dotted with small islands. A popular boat tour takes visitors through narrow waterways, past cinnamon plantations and local villages, offering close-up views of monitor lizards, water monitors, and a variety of birdlife including kingfishers and herons. The lagoon is also known for its stilt fishermen and traditional fishing methods. It's a peaceful escape from the beach crowds, with opportunities for photography and nature observation.
