Pidurangala Vihara is a historic Buddhist monastery complex perched on a large rock formation just north of Sigiriya. The climb is less crowded but more rugged, leading past a massive reclining Buddha carved into the rock. At the summit, visitors are rewarded with a spectacular view of Sigiriya Rock rising from the forest. The site also contains cave temples and ancient monastic ruins, providing a quieter alternative to Sigiriya with a spiritual atmosphere.
