Taprobane Island is a small private island just 200 meters off Weligama's shore, crowned by a distinctive white villa built in the 1930s. At low tide, a sandbar emerges, allowing visitors to walk out to the island. The villa is privately owned and not open to the public, but the island's scenic beauty and the walk itself are the main draws. The turquoise waters and palm-fringed setting make it a favorite subject for photographers. It's a quick, memorable side trip from Weligama beach.

Don't miss

  • Walk the exposed sandbar at low tide to reach the island
