Galle Lighthouse, built by the British in 1848, stands proudly on the southeastern ramparts of Galle Fort. It is one of Sri Lanka's oldest lighthouses and remains operational. Visitors can climb to the base (the tower itself is not open to the public) and enjoy uninterrupted views of the coastline and the fort's bastions. The surrounding area is a popular spot for photography and watching fishermen cast lines into the sea below. The lighthouse's white structure against the blue sky creates a picturesque scene that embodies the fort's maritime heritage.

Don't miss

  • Capture photos of the lighthouse against the backdrop of the Indian Ocean.
  • Enjoy panoramic views of the fort and coastline from the surrounding ramparts.
  • Watch local fishermen casting lines from the rocks near the lighthouse.
