Taprobane Island is a small, privately owned island just off the coast of Weligama, about 5 km east of Mirissa. The island is crowned by a single luxury villa, built in the early 20th century by a French count. Visitors can view the island from the shore or take a boat tour that circles it. The villa is available for exclusive rental, but day-trippers are not permitted on the island itself. The clear waters around the island are good for snorkeling, and the view of the island against the backdrop of the bay is iconic.
Don't miss
- Boat ride around the island for photo opportunities
- Snorkeling in the clear waters near the island
