Jaffna Fort is a star-shaped fortification originally built by the Portuguese in the 17th century and later expanded by the Dutch. Located on a peninsula overlooking the Jaffna lagoon, it played a strategic role in colonial trade and defense. Visitors can explore the massive ramparts, bastions, and a moat. Inside, remnants of Dutch buildings, including a church and barracks, are visible. The fort offers panoramic views of the lagoon and city. It was damaged during the civil war but is now being restored.
