The Dambulla cave temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, is a sprawling complex of five caves carved into a massive rock. Visitors climb a gentle slope to reach the entrance, where they encounter a series of caverns filled with ancient Buddha statues, many dating back centuries. The walls and ceilings are covered in intricate frescoes depicting scenes from the Buddha's life. The sheer number of statues, over 150, and the vivid, well-preserved paintings make this one of Sri Lanka's most impressive religious sites.
Don't miss

- Admire the intricate murals covering the cave ceilings in Cave 2.
- Count the many Buddha images in varying poses across all five caves.
