Casa Milà

Casa Milà, popularly called La Pedrera (the stone quarry), is a residential building that looks like a giant wave of limestone, with wrought-iron balconies resembling seaweed. Gaudí designed it as a unified work of art, from the self-supporting stone facade to the organic interiors. The rooftop is the highlight: a dreamscape of twisted chimneys, ventilation towers, and stairwells shaped like warriors or mushrooms, all covered in trencadís (broken tile mosaics). From here, you get stunning views of the Eixample district and, on clear days, the sea. Inside, the Espai Gaudí exhibition in the attic showcases models and sketches, while the Pedrera Apartment recreates a 1920s bourgeois home, complete with period furniture. The building's central courtyards, painted with floral murals, allow light to flood the apartments. It's a testament to Gaudí's belief that architecture should imitate nature.
